The world comes to the Railyard
Welcome to The Santa Fe Weekender — a short, handpicked guide to the best of the city, in your inbox every Friday. Five things worth your weekend, no scrolling required. This one’s a big one.
The main thing
International Folk Art Market, Railyard Park. For one weekend, artists from more than fifty countries turn the Railyard into the largest folk art market on earth — textiles, ceramics, jewelry, and craft you won’t see anywhere else, most of it made by the hands selling it. Go early, go hungry, and bring cash. It’s the kind of morning you’ll be telling people about for years.
Eat
Tia Sophia’s — fuel up downtown before the crowds. This is breakfast-burrito country, smothered in the chile of your choosing, and locals have started their day here for decades. Get there early; so does everyone else.
La Choza — steps from the Railyard, which makes it the perfect landing spot when the market wears you out. Shaded patio, green chile, a margarita, and a chair you won’t want to leave.
Do
Art Santa Fe, at the Convention Center. If the market lights you up, this contemporary art fair runs the same weekend downtown — a cool, easy indoor counterpoint to a hot morning outside.
Summer Scene on the Plaza. Free live music and movies under the stars all summer long. After a full day, this is how the evening should end — a blanket, the Plaza, and nowhere to be.
See
Museum of International Folk Art, on Museum Hill. With the market fresh in your mind, the museum’s collection hits differently. The “Multiple Visions” hall alone — thousands of handmade figures from around the world — is worth the short drive up the hill.
Also on
Saturday morning at the Railyard Farmers Market is right next door to all the action — peaches, green chile, fresh tortillas. And the Desert Chorale opens its summer season this weekend, singing in the Cathedral Basilica if you want to trade the crowds for something hushed and beautiful.
That’s the weekend. If a friend would love it, forward it their way — they can subscribe at thesantafeweekender.com.
